About Songea's Kids
We are an all-volunteer nonprofit organization dedicated to building hope and transforming the lives of orphans and vulnerable children in southern Tanzania. Founded in 2007, we support approximately 60 children and their communities each year by providing safe shelter, clean water, food, clothing, education and health care. We also support the development of Hope Village, a residential orphan haven to provide caring homes, education and training programs, comprehensive health care, and opportunities for agricultural and enterprise development. Because we are an all-volunteer organization, a full 97% of donations go directly to support the children and their communities.
Basic Needs Provide the Foundation: We ensure every child has a safe place to live, an abundance of nutritious food and hygienic supplies, access to health care services, and we've built several deep-water wells to provide clean water for the children and their communities.
Quality Health Care Services: Early diagnosis and treatment prevent infant and childhood deaths from such illnesses as malaria, typhoid, cholera, HIV/AIDs and others. The Hope Village Rotary Health Care Center, built through donations to Songea’s Kids, provides comprehensive health care to the community.
Education is the Key to the Future: Each child is supported from pre-primary through secondary school or vocational training, and several have graduated from college and university. When graduating from our program, each young adult has the knowledge, skills and ability to support themselves and their future families.
Children with Special Needs are Never Left Behind: We tailor care to the individual needs of each child. Whether it is providing mobility through a prosthetic leg or a wheelchair, or sending a deaf child to a school for the hearing impaired, or ensuring a child with HIV/AIDS has access to specialized medications, all our children receive the care they need to live their best lives.
